The Creative Spark and Fearless Drive That Built Simantel
For our 100th episode of Marketing Sweats, we’re going back to where it all began. Simantel founder Jim Simantel joins us in Peoria to share the story of how one bold creative vision sparked an agency that would stand the test of time. From transforming an old warehouse into Simantel’s home to inspiring generations of designers and storytellers, Jim’s journey is full of grit, passion and big ideas.
But beyond the creativity, Jim built Simantel on relationships with his team, his clients and the Peoria community. He believed great work starts with genuine connection, and that mindset continues to set us apart today. Decades later, we still pride ourselves on those same lasting partnerships and the effort we put into every relationship, because that’s what Jim taught us matters most. Tune in for a dose of history, humor and inspiration from the legend himself.
“You gotta have passion for what you’re doing. You gotta love it. … Any young person’s gotta understand what having passion for something does for your future. It drives everything.”

About Jim Simantel
Jim Simantel is the founder of Simantel, a marketing agency rooted in creativity, strategy and heart. Born in Naperville, Illinois, Jim began his graphic design career in Chicago, where his bold ideas and eye for detail helped him make his mark early (even designing the first-ever Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket.)
In search of a new challenge and a community to call home, Jim moved to Peoria to start his own agency long before the digital age transformed marketing. His passion for design and storytelling quickly set a new creative standard in the region.
Jim’s influence goes far beyond his work, he built a culture where ideas thrive, people grow and creativity leads the way. He even turned an old warehouse into Simantel’s Water Street home, crafting tables from reclaimed Bradley University basketball courts.
Today, his legacy continues to inspire generations of marketers who continue to hold up the values he built the agency on.
